Lifestyle diseases have emerged as the leading health conditions recorded during the ongoing Daktari Mashinani health outreach programme being conducted across various health facilities in Embu County.
According to Embu County Health Promotion Officer Pauline Nginyo, cases of diabetes and high blood pressure have dominated the medical camps held in different sub-counties.
Speaking during the outreach programme, Nginyo said the exercise has already been conducted at Gategi Health Centre in Mwea Sub-county and Kianjokoma Hospital in Runyenjes Constituency, attracting hundreds of residents seeking specialized medical services.
She noted that women have turned up in large numbers compared to men and urged more men to take advantage of the programme, warning that they are equally vulnerable to lifestyle-related diseases.
Nginyo also encouraged residents to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA) to enable them access continued healthcare services even after the outreach programme ends.
She announced that SHA registration will take place at Kiritiri Health Centre on May 28 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The outreach programme is expected to continue at Kavondori Hospital in Kiritiri, Mbeere South Sub-county on May 28 before moving to Kairuri in Manyatta Constituency on June 10, 2026.
The Embu County Government says the programme aims to bring specialized healthcare services closer to residents while helping them reduce treatment costs.
