The Embu High Court has upheld the election of Leonard Muthende as the Member of Parliament for Mbeere North, dismissing a petition challenging the outcome of the November 27, 2025 by-election.

In a ruling delivered on Thursday, Justice Richard Mwongo dismissed eight issues raised by the petitioners, saying they failed to meet the legal threshold required to prove electoral irregularities and admissibility of evidence. The court also ordered the petitioners to pay KSh 4 million in costs to Muthende and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Speaking after the ruling, Muthende welcomed the decision, saying the judgment clears the way for him to fully concentrate on serving the people of Mbeere North and implementing his development agenda.

However, the petitioners’ lawyer, Kariuki Njiiri, expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling, stating that they will appeal the decision and seek to present additional evidence in a higher court.
