Five people were arrested in Meru Town on Thursday morning as police intensified security operations ahead of planned demonstrations linked to the Gen Z anniversary commemorations.
Confirming the arrests, Imenti North Sub-County Police Commander Ambrose Kyalo said the suspects were apprehended during early morning security operations.
He did not immediately disclose their identities or the offences for which they were being held.
Kyalo said the security situation in the town remained calm, with no incidents of violence reported.
Businesses continued operating normally as traders and residents went about their daily activities under heightened police surveillance.
The police commander urged members of the public to continue with their businesses without fear, assuring them that adequate security measures had been put in place to safeguard lives and property.
Police officers maintained a visible presence across key areas of the town as authorities monitored the situation and sought to prevent any disruptions to public order.
