Former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti has raised concerns regarding the recent targeting of county buildings housing crucial financial records, including the Governor’s office and Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

Kivuti suggested that the destruction, which occurred in a suspected arson incident, might have been orchestrated by cunning politicians aiming to conceal their incompetence and evade future scrutiny.

“There is no need for politicians to claim they know the wrongdoers yet they cannot identify them or take legal action,” he said.

This comes days after allegations from local leaders, including Governor Cecily Mbarire, implicated unnamed politicians in orchestrating arson attacks targeting key county buildings.

The governor’s office, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) office, and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) offices in Embu were torched in early July during Gen-Z protests.

Pointing out the presence of CCTV surveillance within many government offices, Kivuti called upon the county government to swiftly identify and disclose the perpetrators responsible for the destructive acts.

He stressed that unfounded accusations and claims of insider knowledge regarding the culprits serve little purpose without concrete actions or legal measures.

Previously, Embu County Commissioner Jack Obuo estimated that properties worth Sh150 million were lost in the torched Governor’s office and an additional Sh20 million property was stolen from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) office.

Kivuti condemned leaders who politicized the Gen Z demonstrations and accused some top politicians of paying boda boda operators to disrupt the peaceful protests to seek better governance.

He emphasized that it is constitutional for Gen Z to protest and called on politicians to refrain from such interruptions.

“Gen Z’s main motive in the demonstrations was to liberate the country from bad governance, and I see no harm in it. Politicians should stop interfering with their agenda,” Kivuti said.

The former senator emphasized his commitment to focusing on his endeavors without succumbing to distractions he termed “petty politics.”

He reaffirmed his position within Embu County while urging politicians to abstain from divisive politics that yield no tangible benefits for the region or the nation.

Kivuti spoke during the 25th-anniversary celebrations of St. Jude Gitii Secondary School in Ishiara, where he was honored as the founder.
