The Embu-Meru highway is now abuzz with activities as many vehicles returned to its lanes hours after the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) reopened the busy road.

A scene of vibrant movement now characterizes the previously deserted stretch of road, with cars, trucks, and buses streaming steadily in both directions.

The closure, which commenced on April 30th, was necessitated by extensive maintenance and rehabilitation of a section of the road that the ongoing rains had destroyed.

The road had been closed at Mutunduri near Ena following a heavy downpour that undermined the Ikong’u bridge near St. Mary’s Kiangima Girls School.

Announcing the opening on Thursday, KeNHA assured motorists plying the Embu-Meru highway that the section between Mutunduri and Ena was open and safe for passage.

“The Authority, however, appeals to motorists to approach the section with caution and be on the lookout for any possible flooding and take necessary precautions,” read a section of their opening statement.

Throughout the closure period, motorists navigating these alternative routes encountered challenges, including uneven terrain and potholes.
