Locals have been advised to be more careful as the rain intensifies.

The call comes after a 60-year-old woman was found dead in Rupingazi river at Kangaru, Embu County on Wednesday evening.

Joseph Maina, Kiangima assistant chief said the ongoing rains have caused floods in many places.

“When there are floods, it is hard to understand the water depth. Therefore, it is advisable we be careful when crossing waters,” he said.

The woman whose body lies at Embu Level 5 Hospital mortuary went missing last Friday.

Elsewhere, Makima residents have petitioned the county government of Embu to build a permanent bridge on river Mashamba in Mbeere South.

Led by MCA Phillip Nzangi, they said several accidents have been recorded in the area.

“Boda boda operators have been swept away trying to cross the river. As we continue to exercise patience to allow water levels to subside, the county government should build a permanent bridge,” he said.

Two people escaped death narrowly after their car was swept away by flash floods while trying to cross the river on Monday evening.
