A beacon of hope is gradually emerging at Karago village of Kyeni South in Runyenjes Constituency, Embu County, as the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) launches the construction of a bridge on Itimbogo river.
The NDMA, through the Kyeni South and Kagaari South Climate Change groups, came to rescue the residents traversing river Itimbogo that connects Karago Primary School and Gicera village in Kagaari South Ward of the same constituency.
The bridge presented a hazardous obstacle to local mobility, especially for school-going children.
Parents escort their children to school and wait for them at the bridge in the evening to ensure they are safe.

Karago Primary draws pupils from Gichera and Ndagakira villages which are connected by the bridge.
Taratisio Ireri Kawe, a human rights activist lauded the Authority for its tireless efforts in overcoming financial constraints to undertake the essential project.
“The erection of this bridge is not merely a construction project. It is a testament to the power of collective action and solidarity in promoting human dignity and social equity,” he said.
Kawe highlighted the bridge’s longstanding state of disrepair as a barrier to progress in the community.
He urged the contractor to install guard rails with small spaces to ensure the safety of children and prevent accidents, after the construction.
Kawe called upon Kagaari South MCA Susan Wariru and his colleague MCA Barnabas Njama (Kyeni South) to prioritize the improvement of the road connecting to the bridge.
Emphasizing the importance of accessible and well-maintained roads, the activist highlighted the pivotal role of the MCAs in ensuring connectivity and promoting human rights.
“The successful construction of the bridge represents a significant milestone in our community’s development. However, to fully realize its potential, we must prioritize the improvement of road infrastructure to ensure all residents have access to safe and reliable transportation,” he said.
