Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has threatened to publicly disclose the identities of directors linked to Vodafone and Vodacom if the government fails to come clean on the sale of its 15 per cent stake in Safaricom.
Speaking during a youth political aspirants empowerment forum in Embu town, Nyoro questioned the transparency of the transaction and demanded that the process be opened to international competitive bidding to ensure Kenyans receive full value from the national asset.
The MP argued that the deal, valued at Sh204 billion, significantly undervalues Safaricom, warning that a fixed-price arrangement denies the country an opportunity to secure a higher return through open global competition.
“The sale of such a strategic national asset must be transparent and subjected to international bidding. Anything less shortchanges Kenyans,” Nyoro said, adding that secrecy around the deal only fuels suspicion.

Turning to education financing, Nyoro said the government has the capacity to immediately provide free education in all day secondary schools if resources are properly prioritized.
He cited the ongoing government directive requiring all students who sat the Grade 9 examinations last year to report to senior schools — even without school fees or uniforms — as proof that the state can fully fund basic education.
According to Nyoro, releasing the Sh22,000 capitation per student to secondary schools, cutting expenditure on office renovations, and reducing allocations to the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) would free sufficient funds to sustain free day secondary education.
“All the government needs to do is release capitation on time and rationalize spending. Free education is achievable today, not tomorrow,” he said.
Nyoro was the chief guest at the forum held at a hotel in Embu town, where he urged young political aspirants to demand accountability, transparency, and value for public resources as the foundation of responsible leadership.

The forum, which attracted hundreds of young political aspirants from Embu, Kirinyaga, Tharaka Nithi, Meru and other counties, provided a platform for benchmarking, networking, and mentorship on leadership and governance.
Organized by Vijana Uongozini, the Forum for Young Aspirants brought together emerging leaders to share real-life experiences drawn from their journeys in politics and public service, anchored on the importance of standing with the people.
Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji said the engagement was a valuable learning opportunity for young aspirants, noting that mentorship and people-centred leadership are critical in shaping responsible future leaders.
“This was a day of benchmarking, networking, and mentorship with Hon. Ndindi Nyoro. The forum allowed aspirants to learn directly from leaders who have walked the path of leadership and governance,” Mukunji said.
He added that such platforms help young leaders build networks, exchange ideas, and gain practical insights necessary for effective and ethical leadership.
