Residents and motorists from Riamaciri, Gatoori, Mikimbi, and Mukangu villages in Kirimari Ward, Manyatta Constituency, have appealed to the government to urgently install speed bumps along the Kangaru–Kavurokori road, citing a growing threat of road accidents near schools and market centers.

Speaking to ARISE MEDIA, the concerned residents decried reckless driving and speeding by motorists, warning that the situation has become a daily danger for schoolchildren and pedestrians who frequently use the road.

“We have witnessed vehicles moving at high speed through this area without considering that school children are crossing,” said Timothy Mugendi, a bodaboda rider. “We want the government to act now before we start mourning.”

The riders, who operate along the busy route, said they constantly caution children and pedestrians to stay alert as vehicles approach. They noted that the absence of speed bumps, road signs, and pedestrian crossings has made the area a potential accident hotspot.

James Mugambi, a trader and parent from Riamaciri, voiced concern for the safety of school-going children who use the road daily.

“We are living in fear every day. Our children walk to school using this road, and we can’t be at peace knowing how fast vehicles pass by. The government should at least put up six bumps near Mukangu and Gatoori schools,” he urged.

The Kangaru–Kavurokori route connects several villages to Embu town and serves farmers, traders, and public service vehicles.

Residents say that without proper speed control measures, the road could soon witness fatal accidents if authorities do not intervene promptly.

They are calling on the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) and the Embu County government to prioritize road safety by installing speed bumps and warning signs near schools and market centers to reduce speeding and safeguard lives.

“We just want the government to take preventive action instead of waiting until lives are lost,” added Mugendi.

Residents have vowed to continue raising their voices until the necessary safety measures are implemented to make the Kangaru–Kavurukori road safe for all users.
