Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes, Geoffrey Ruku, on Thursday led a high-impact humanitarian relief mission in Mwakirunge, Kisauni, Mombasa County, targeting vulnerable women and children affected by persistent food insecurity.

The initiative, organized through the State Department for Special Programmes, involved the distribution of essential food and household supplies, reinforcing the government’s ongoing commitment to inclusive, compassionate, and accountable service delivery.

Speaking during the outreach, CS Ruku emphasized that the government’s response was not just about short-term aid but part of a broader strategy to link relief efforts with long-term solutions like skills training and economic inclusion.

“What we are doing here is the embodiment of a Government that listens, responds, and restores hope,” he said.

The CS was hosted by Mombasa Woman Representative Zamzam Mohammed and Kisauni MP Rashid Bedzimba, who joined him in calling for stronger grassroots government engagement, particularly during economic hardship.

The event also showcased the Ministry’s Huduma Smart Serikalini initiative, which Ruku said is transforming public service into a presence-driven, citizen-centered operation rooted in dignity, efficiency, and constitutional values.

Ruku used the platform to rally support for President William Ruto’s administration, citing revived infrastructure projects and renewed commitment to resolving longstanding land issues in the region.

He pledged to work with the Lands Ministry to address land ownership concerns in Kisauni.

In a sharp political jab, Ruku dismissed the opposition as “tribal chiefs” lacking fresh ideas, accusing them of failing Kenyans during past stints in government.

Residents of Mwakirunge expressed gratitude for the intervention, with one saying, “For a long time, we felt forgotten. Today, we have seen that the government knows our struggle and cares.”

Since assuming office, Ruku has led relief missions across drought-hit and marginalized regions, underscoring a service model that prioritizes presence over policy and action over promises.
