Thousands of children in Embu County are set to receive free measles and typhoid vaccines in a two-week immunization campaign launched Saturday by the county government.

The drive, officially flagged off at Embu Level 5 Hospital by Health CECM Jamal Runyenje, aims to vaccinate children aged 9–15 months against measles-rubella and those aged 9–14 years against typhoid.

“Our goal is to ensure that no child suffers or dies from preventable diseases. We urge all parents to seize this opportunity,” said Runyenje.

The campaign targets 200,000 children and will be conducted in hospitals, schools, markets, churches, and remote areas where routine immunization rates remain low.

At Embu Level 5, long queues of parents with children signaled strong public interest. Rose Mary Wambui, a mother, expressed relief: “I feel safer now that my child is protected.”

Runyenje assured residents of the vaccines’ safety and emphasized the importance of completing all doses.

The campaign is part of a national effort to reduce preventable child deaths, with measles outbreaks still reported in areas of low vaccine coverage.
