More than 7,000 national identity cards remain uncollected at registration centers across Embu County, according to April 2025 data from the Department of Registration of Persons.
The statistics show 7,247 uncollected IDs, including the newly introduced Maisha Cards. Of these, 4,813 belong to first-time applicants, while 2,434 are for replacements and other services.
Authorities are urging residents to collect their IDs to avoid inconveniences when seeking government services that require identification.
At the Embu Huduma Centre, 378 Not Previously Registered (NPR) applicants have completed online live registration. Of these, 307 cards have already been processed and are ready for collection.
The situation reflects a wider trend across the Upper Eastern Region—comprising five counties—where 34,926 ID cards are yet to be picked up. This includes 13,512 NPR applicants and 21,414 for replacements and other services.
The collection delay occurs during the ongoing rollout of the Maisha Card, Kenya’s next-generation national ID. The card features advanced security elements, a 10-year validity period, and integration with government digital services.
Officials are calling on residents to check the status of their cards and collect them promptly to ensure access to public services and compliance with identification requirements.
