Veteran Benga artist Newton Kariuki, popularly known as Karish has dropped a bombshell of financial wisdom for fellow musicians, urging them to marry.

Kariuki advised fellow musicians to consider tying the knot as a strategic move to ward off the discordant strains of financial mismanagement.

Known for both his musical prowess and political acumen, Kariuki candidly shared his insights on the challenges many artists face in navigating the complex financial landscape of the music industry.

“When you are doing well in this industry, you become a darling to many. Some artists, especially men, have been losing their hard-earned money to girls whom they attract through music. Marriage brings a sense of responsibility and accountability,” he said.

With a wealth of experience, the successful artiste who doubles as the MCA for Muminji ward in Mbeere North Constituency, Embu County, emphasized the importance of having a supportive life partner.

Kariuki pointed out that the unpredictable nature of the music business can lead to financial turbulence, making it crucial for artists to have a stable and supportive environment at home.

He said there is money in the industry if a musician positions him or herself well, noting that it should be well utilized in building a foundation for a secure future.

By promoting the idea of marriage as a financial safety net, the Benga King has initiated a conversation within the music community about the importance of holistic stability.

Apart from giving marriage advice to musicians in all the musical activities he attends, Kariuki once recorded a song titled Riria Ngwina, noting some of the challenges he faced when he started his music journey.

“When I started singing, people referred to me as a ‘guitar criminal’ asking where I would get the money to educate my children. But I pleaded with God to help me…,” notes a line in the song.

“People used to hurt me when they asked whether I do anything else other than music. They thought music is a waste of time, but I tell you, it pays,” Kariuki said during the recent Embu Music Annual Awards (EMA) event held at the Embu’s Moi Stadium.

In the song, Kariuki advises people to love what they do, saying it significantly contributes to their overall well-being and success.
