Persons living with disabilities in Embu County will benefit from a week-long mass assessment and registration exercise aimed at improving access to government services and support programmes.
The countywide exercise will run from July 7 to July 14, 2026, and is being organized by the Embu County Departments of Gender, Culture, Children and Social Services and Health in partnership with the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) and the Association of Persons with Disabilities Kenya (APDK).
The exercise will be conducted at selected health facilities across Mbeere North, Manyatta, Mbeere South, Runyenjes and Mwea sub-counties, where eligible persons will receive free disability assessment and registration services.
Speaking ahead of the exercise, Embu County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health, Jamal Runyenje, said the programme is intended to ease the burden faced by persons with disabilities in accessing assessment and registration services.
“This programme will ease a lot of pain for persons with disabilities by enabling them to access assessment and registration services that unlock the waivers and reprieve available for PWDs,” said Runyenje.
County officials noted that registration with the National Council for Persons with Disabilities enables beneficiaries to access various government interventions, including tax exemptions, medical support, educational assistance and other social protection programmes.
Residents have been advised to attend the exercise with the required documents, including a National Identity Card or birth certificate, a recent passport-size photograph and a mobile phone number for eCitizen registration where applicable.
Health officials have urged all eligible persons with disabilities and their caregivers to take advantage of the exercise, describing it as a significant step towards greater inclusion, recognition and improved access to essential services.
The county government said the initiative underscores its commitment to promoting the rights and welfare of persons living with disabilities by ensuring that no eligible resident is left behind in accessing services and opportunities available to them.
