The Pest Control Products Board (PCPB) has impounded counterfeit and unregistered pesticides worth Sh600,000 in a two-day crackdown across Embu, Tharaka, and Meru counties.
The operation, conducted by the board’s Mt. Kenya Regional Office, targeted illegal products circulating in agrovet shops and farms ahead of the short rains season, when demand for farm inputs peaks.
PCPB General Manager for Compliance and Enforcement, Lawrence Kalawa, said the crackdown was part of a nationwide campaign to rid the market of harmful and unregulated pest control products.
Kalawa warned that some traders were exploiting farmers’ rush to prepare for planting by selling fake or smuggled chemicals that pose serious health and environmental risks.

He urged farmers to buy pesticides only from licensed dealers and to verify product registration with PCPB to avoid losses and safeguard public safety.
The board said similar operations will continue across the country to protect consumers and ensure only approved products reach the market.
