Football Kenya Federation (FKF) officials in Embu have expressed confidence in the upgraded Moi National Stadium’s capacity to host premier league matches starting February next year.
Speaking at the Annual General Meeting held at the Stadium, FKF Embu Chairman Charles Njagi said there is a growing interest from football teams across various counties to utilize the stadium for their matches.
“The upgraded facility has already started attracting teams like Kariobangi Sharks and Gor Mahia. This will foster a significant growth of football activities within the county,” said Njagi.
Njagi noted that the FKF National office had assessed the stadium but recommended the removal of debris for player safety during premier league matches.
He assured local football teams that the Federation is working towards providing a conducive environment for them to showcase their talents.
Njagi said beyond enhancing football, hosting premier league matches in Embu would also benefit the local businesses.
“The increased influx of traveling football teams and their fans seeking accommodation will boost hospitality and other business sectors in Embu County,” Njagi added.
He maintained that hosting premier league matches in Embu would also provide exposure for existing players creating opportunities for young talents.
The chairman reiterated the Federation’s commitment to structuring football teams at the ward level, encouraging leaders to support football development in the grassroots.
FKF Embu treasurer Kenedy Musyoka noted that football is an expensive affair and stakeholders must keep providing financial assistance to ensure matches continue successfully.
“It is only through actively playing structured football leagues that we can nurture talents and improve football games in the county,” said Musyoka.
