The long-awaited tarmacking of the Rukuriri-Kathageri-Kanyuambora road in Embu County is set to commence soon, following the successful completion of preparatory works.
Runyenjes MP Eric Muchangi said the relocation of water pipes along the Rukuriri-Iriari-Kiangungi stretch has been completed, clearing the way for the start of construction.
Muchangi confirmed that the contractor was setting up the site office, with construction expected to begin immediately.
“We have completed the process of relocating water pipes and the contractor is currently preparing for the site office to begin construction immediately with the first phase,” said MP Muchangi.
The 28-kilometer road project, funded by the national governments, is anticipated to be a major boost for the region’s connectivity and economic development.
He said the government had allocated Sh550 million for the first phase of the project, which will cover the initial 8 kilometers.
“This project is crucial for the development of our county. It will not only improve transportation but also boost trade and agriculture by providing better access to markets,” he added.
In a move to further benefit the local community, the contractors will engage local residents throughout the construction phase.
“Contractors will be working closely with the local community to ensure that they benefit from this project. This includes hiring local workers and sourcing materials from local suppliers where possible,” he said.
As the project gets underway, the local community is hopeful that it will mark the beginning of a new era of growth and prosperity for the region.
