Embu County security committee has initiated extensive recovery operations to reclaim stolen government properties in response to recent vandalism and theft amid anti-finance bill 2024 protests.
County Commissioner Jack Obuo reported significant losses, estimating that properties worth Sh150 million were lost in the torched Governor’s office.
“At the same time, an additional Sh20 million was stolen from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) office,” he said.
Obuo said the destroyed offices were the Governor’s office, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) office, and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) office in Embu.
Obuo said individuals with malicious intentions targeted the offices and infiltrated the peaceful protest to destroy them.
Obuo outlined the committee’s efforts to arrest the perpetrators, noting that 23 individuals across the county have already been arrested and prosecuted.
Obuo has given a 7-day amnesty to those possessing the stolen county properties to return them.
“Among the stolen equipment, especially those from KRA, have tracking devices. We are aware of their whereabouts,” Obuo said.

However, the commissioner emphasized that the government will not retaliate against other protesters saying only those who destroyed public infrastructure will be punished.
The commissioner also noted that from May to July 2024, the county had recorded four murder cases, 17 assault cases, two defilement cases, and three robbery cases.
