David Ndwiga emerged victorious in the hotly contested election for the position of Chairman at the Embu town market.
The election, characterized by palpable enthusiasm and robust participation from traders across diverse sectors, witnessed a keenly contested battle among candidates, each vying to articulate their vision for the market’s future and garner support from the electorate.
Ndwiga, a grocer, garnered 431 votes against his closest rival Robert Mugendi, who got 300 votes.
Upon clinching the top seat, Ndwiga thanked the traders for their unwavering support and pledged to prioritize their interests.
“I am deeply honored and humbled by your trust in me. Together, we will embark on a transformation journey, ensuring that Embu Market thrives as a beacon of commerce and community,” he said amidst jubilant celebrations.

Ndwiga’s ascension to the chairmanship heralds a period of heightened expectations and renewed optimism among traders.
As the custodian of their collective aspirations, the Chairman is tasked with navigating challenges, amplifying opportunities, and fostering inclusive growth within the market precincts.
In the Tuesday elections, Salesio Nyaga clinched the secretary position after garnering 456 votes. Joseph Njiru got 315 votes, thus becoming the treasurer.
Others who were elected are Josphat Mwangi to represent grocery traders (289 votes), Sarah Wambui (Stalls) with 44 votes, and Gladys Mbogo (Cereals) with 57 votes.
Wilfred Ndung’u garnered 33 votes to clinch the fruit vendors’ representative seat, while Albert Kiprono got 41 votes. Kiprono will be representing Beba Beba traders.
