In a heartwarming celebration, a 101-year-old granny threw a festive party for children in her village, bringing smiles and laughter to children.
The Jamhuri Day celebration occurred at granny Veronica Mbeere Ndwiga’s home at Kinyaga village in Kawanjara-Runyenjes, Embu County.
The event transformed into a magical wonderland filled with delicious treats. Mbeere said children are a blessing and she likes it when they gain life lessons.
“Apart from partying, the event provides a platform for imparting valuable advice to children, fostering a deeper understanding of life lessons,” she said.
“Always respect other people and work hard. If you wish to have a successful life, avoid being lazy,” Mbeere added.
During the celebrations, the granny, known for her boundless energy and love for children, spares no effort in ensuring that the party becomes a memorable experience for everyone present.
What started as a simple idea to bring joy to her grandchildren many years ago gradually evolved into a bigger, community event as granny Mbeere extended her invitation to neighboring children.
“This is an annual event where children from this village party with our grandmother. This year, we had 180 children,” said Purity Mwende, the children’s organizer.
Locals said the advice received from the annual gathering has brought a positive change in the community.
“Key advice centered around timeless values such as respect for others, value for education, and the importance of hard work. We have seen a great change in the community. We appreciate this unifying gesture,” said Grace Rwamba, a resident.
The duo advised other villages to embrace such an activity, saying it could help to change society positively.
