Two young men who died during recent Ishiara protests succumbed to massive internal bleeding caused by single gunshot wounds, a postmortem examination has confirmed.
The autopsy, conducted on Monday at Embu Level 5 Hospital, was carried out by a panel of three pathologists, including Dr. Grace Mindigo from the Ministry of Health’s Division of Forensic and Pathology Services and Dr. Peter Ndegwa from the Independent Medico-Legal Unit (IMLU).
Officials from the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and a government forensic team were also present.
According to the findings, one victim sustained a gunshot wound that entered through the front of the neck and exited at the back.
The second victim suffered a gunshot injury to the mouth area, with the bullet remaining lodged in the body before being recovered during the examination.
Pathologists concluded that both deaths were caused by severe hemorrhage resulting from the gunshot injuries sustained during the unrest.
