The Ministry of Education has announced a comprehensive initiative to construct 15,000 classrooms in preparation for Grade 9.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu said the government has already allocated Sh3.39 billion to Members of Parliament, who will merge this with their CDF funds to construct 6,000 classrooms.

The CS added that through the Ministry of Education, the government has provided an additional Sh9 billion to construct another 9,000 classrooms.

“In this particular year, we are at level 8. Next year, we will be moving to level 9, which would be domiciled in our existing primary schools,” he said.

He highlighted that the government is in the process of retooling and employing an additional 20,000 teachers to prepare for Grade 9 fully.

“We are making necessary preparations to ensure that by the coming year, all key infrastructures are in place,” he further stated.

The CS spoke during the 62nd edition of National Drama and Film Festivals at Kangaru Girls High School, Embu.
