Embu sports, talents, and creative arts department has launched its first-ever Musical Excellence Awards, aiming to recognize and celebrate the outstanding achievements of local musicians and artists.
The voting process starts today, November 24, and will culminate in an awards ceremony slated for December 12, this year.
This promises to be a glamorous affair, showcasing the vibrant and diverse musical talent that Embu County has to offer.
The awards will span various categories including Best Producer of the Year, Best Indigenous Song, Best Secular Song, Best Gospel Song, Most Promising Artist, Deejay of the Year, and Best Mt. Kenya Artist among others.
“Nominations for the awards are now open. In total, we have 19 categories. This initiative will not only honor established musicians but will also provide a platform to nurture budding artists,” said Jane Waroga, the CECM for Youth, Gender, Sports, Culture, and Social Services.
Waroga noted that the awarding ceremony will be presided over by Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire among other high-profile guests to create opportunities for the local art industry to thrive and expand its reach.
Pithon Muchoki, the Chief Officer for talents and creative arts expressed his enthusiasm for the event, emphasizing the importance of supporting and nurturing the rich art and musical culture.
He encourages Embu residents to take part in the voting and celebration of their fellow countyzens’ musical achievements.
He noted that judges are comprised of industrial experts who will carefully review submissions to determine genuine finalists in each category.
Charles Mwaura, the Embu Annual Music Awards Committee Chairman said a person can only vote once in each category.
“The voting system has been well vetted for genuine results. Each vote costs one shilling. To vote press *250*22# then follow the prompts,” he said.
