Kenya National Chambers of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), Embu Chapter has embarked on a collaborative exercise to train business people on the importance of cultivating good business practices.
The initiative supports the National Action Plan that prioritize ethical conduct in the business landscape.
John Mugo Mate, the KNCCI Embu chairman said there was a need to train business persons on ethical conduct in businesses saying it instills a strategic move for building brand trust and reputation.
“If business people have good relations with those around them, including foreign investors seeking deals, then their businesses will grow internationally,” said Mate.
“Prioritizing the observance of human rights in business operations by business practitioners not only upholds ethical standards but also serves as a strategic measure to mitigate risks arising from labor rights litigation, damaging the business’s reputation in the long run,” he added.
Alfred Murithi, a trade officer from Mungania Tea Factory and a beneficiary of the program said some businesspersons lack knowledge about human rights causing suppression by government policies.
“We should continue to build capacity to our business persons so that they can understand their rights and engage in ethical activities,” Murithi said.
Murithi called upon the government and private sectors to advocate for rightful practices in businesses since their contributions play a vital role in driving positive change in the business world.
