Members of the Embu County Assembly have strongly condemned Cabinet Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development, Geoffrey Ruku, over what they termed as insulting and derogatory remarks against Evurore MCA and Mbeere North parliamentary by-election aspirant, Duncan Mbui.

Speaking during a live radio interview on Wednesday, Ruku referred to Mbui as “Ngongoti”—a bird in the local dialect said to injure itself while building nests—while questioning Mbui’s political credibility.

“Mbui is a foolish person. That is why after Riggy G investigated him, he decided to drop him as a DCP candidate. If he wasn’t foolish, Riggy G would have supported him,” Ruku said during the broadcast.

The comments triggered sharp criticism from Embu MCAs, who accused the CS of disrespecting not only Mbui but the entire County Assembly.

Led by Mbeti North MCA Muriithi Kobole, Kirimari’s Ibrahim Swaleh, and Makima’s Philip Nzangi, the lawmakers called for an immediate public apology.

Kiongozi wa hadhi yake anafaa kuleta pamoja Wakenya, si kuwatukana pamoja na viongozi wao,” said Nzangi, warning that such language promotes division rather than unity.

Kobole expressed outrage at the comparison to Ngongoti, saying, “Ni vibaya sana Waziri Ruku kulinganisha MCAs wetu na ndege ambaye hana akili.”

The MCAs also accused Ruku of undermining the performance of elected leaders, citing remarks that a three-time elected MCA had a public approval rating of below 30 percent.

Waziri Ruku pamoja na viongozi wengine wawili wametukosea heshima,” said Swaleh, who also serves as Deputy Speaker.

The Assembly has demanded that Ruku issue a public apology through a national radio or television station.

They warned that failure to do so would lead them to publicly back Mbui and Muminji MCA, Newton Kariuki, in the upcoming by-election.

Tungependa aombe msamaha. Ukimtukana mmoja, umetukana MCAs wote wa Kenya,” Nzangi stated.

Kobole added, “Asipoomba msamaha, tutajiunga MCA ishirini katika jimbo hili na kumpa mwenzetu kura. Siasa si mchezo wa kifua, ni heshima.

The MCAs further cautioned Ruku against continued disparagement of the Assembly’s leadership, noting that Embu ranks among the top ten counties in performance.

Hii si mara ya kwanza tunasikia maneno kama haya, na hatutaruhusu mtu yeyote kudharau rekodi yetu,” said Swaleh.

The lawmakers urged national leaders to promote unity and respect among elected officials, emphasizing that Embu’s political leadership would not tolerate insults masked as political criticism.
