Young demonstrators in Embu County have denied involvement in Tuesday’s protests that erupted in the town, instead accusing local authorities of hiring goons to incite violence and discredit their peaceful demonstrations.
The protests, initially aimed at demanding government accountability, took a chaotic turn when groups of alleged hired goons engaged in acts of mayhem.
Protesters claim that the individuals were sponsored by the county leadership to undermine the legitimacy of their movement.
According to sources, a group of boda boda operators and County Kanju Askaris were allegedly paid to prevent protests.
