Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale on Monday inaugurated the NHIF Pending Medical Claims Verification Committee, tasked with auditing medical claims lodged between July 1, 2022, and September 30, 2024.

Speaking at Afya House during the event, Duale said the committee will help restore public trust in Kenya’s health financing system.

He emphasized transparency, accountability, and value for money in settling claims submitted to the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).

“This Committee is a critical step towards restoring public trust in our health financing system. We must ensure that every shilling spent delivers meaningful health outcomes,” he said, citing the Government’s Universal Health Coverage goals under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

Established under Gazette Notice No. 4069 of March 28, 2025, the committee will also recommend which claims should be paid and advise the Ministry of Health on related reforms.

Committee Chairperson James Masiro pledged the team’s commitment to professionalism and timely delivery, stressing the sensitivity and magnitude of the assignment.
