Gaturi South Location Chief, Nelson Kariuki Namu, has warned residents against engaging in mob justice, emphasizing that those involved will face legal action.

His statement follows the lynching of a 30-year-old man, Boniface Githinji, on Wednesday morning in Nembure, Manyatta Constituency in Embu County, after he was allegedly caught stealing water meters and taps.

Residents claimed Githinji had a history of theft but was rarely arrested.

Chief Namu condemned the act, stating that such incidents not only lead to unnecessary loss of life but also obstruct police investigations.

He urged the public to report crime to authorities instead of taking the law into their own hands.

Reassuring residents of the government’s commitment to security, he encouraged collaboration with law enforcement.

He also advised unemployed youth to engage in productive activities and avoid drug abuse, which he said contributes to poor decision-making and crime.
