Professional bodies across various sectors have been urged to integrate young professionals into Social Responsibility (SR) programs to help them develop essential soft skills to enhance their service to society.

Engineers Board of Kenya representative, Grace Onyango said young professionals, regardless of their chosen field, require a blend of technical expertise and social responsibility skills.

“Young professionals should not only be technically competent but also equipped with social responsibility skills,” Onyango stated.

Onyango highlighted that social responsibility skills are crucial for enabling professionals to support the less fortunate in society.

She explained that the Engineers Board of Kenya was engaging young engineers in programs where they visit and donate foodstuffs to children’s homes and People Living With Disabilities.

“As a regulator of professional engineering services in Kenya, we are inducting our young engineers into CSR programs. These initiatives provide them with the necessary skills to serve society beyond their technical training,” Onyango added.

Onyango reiterated the importance of sustaining these efforts and called for more professional bodies to adopt similar SR programs.

“By embedding social responsibility into our professional training, we create a generation of well-rounded professionals who are skilled, compassionate, and socially aware,” she said.

During a visit to the Jomo Kenyatta Home for Children with Physical Disabilities in Embu, the Engineers Board of Kenya donated various food items, including rice, flour, sugar, salt, cooking oil, tissues, and sanitary towels.

The Kenya Red Cross Embu Branch chairman, Vimal Chadha stressed the importance of community involvement in uplifting the lives of vulnerable groups.

He noted that support from well-wishers is vital in ensuring that children living with disabilities receive the care and resources they need to thrive.

“We encourage more organizations and individuals to contribute to these noble causes. These contributions make a huge difference in the lives of children. It provides for their immediate needs and shows them that there are people who care about their well-being,” said Vimal.
