The importance of education cannot be exaggerated in today’s swiftly evolving world.
As the adage goes investing in knowledge pays the best interest, it is vital to lay a strong foundation during the formation years as it shapes our entire future.
Along the Embu-Kathangariri highway, a kilometer from the vibrant Kibugu market and 25 minutes drive from Embu town exists a school that stands as a shining beacon of excellence.
St. Ursula Girls Boarding Primary and Junior Secondary School sets the standard for what education should be.
Ranging from the teachers to the support staff, this exceptional school is equipped with innovation, passion, and commitment to nurturing young minds—and redefining the future of education.
“Since I enrolled my daughters in this school over the years, I have seen a big difference not only in academic excellence but also in sporting and talent activities,” says Daniel Mbithi Ndunda, a parent.
Mbithi, a seasoned parent says the school has greatly assisted in nurturing his daughters’ ICT skills, self-esteem, and efficacy—thanks to the experienced teachers who have mastered the art of tapping and developing skills.
The expansive government institution sponsored by the Catholic church offers a serene and nurturing setting that ensures students have the space to explore, grow, and thrive.
Established over four decades ago, St. Ursula Girls Boarding Primary and Junior Secondary School has consistently pushed the boundaries of traditional education creating a legacy of producing exceptional individuals who develop into responsible and compassionate citizens.
“St. Ursula School is more than a place of learning. I see it as a place of inspiration and a nurturing ground for creativity and lifelong achievements. It’s a recommendable school,” says Caroline Kariithi, an alumnus.
Kariithi says the school taught her to embrace the world with curiosity and courage noting that she will forever be grateful for the doors the school opened and the values it instilled in her.
When we visited the school, we found learners engaging in interhouse competitions where Mt. Kilimanjaro House emerged as the overall winner.
The school has four houses (dormitories) including Mt. Elgon, Mt. Kenya, Mt. Ruwenzori, and Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Mr. Charles Murithi, the talents and sports master says they regularly engage in such competitions to understand children’s talents in line with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
“The CBC curriculum offers opportunities for practice and specialization at basic levels of education and that is why we regularly get our pupils into the field for sporting activities,” he reveals.
Mrs. Esther Ndwiga, the headteacher says their first priority is to fully support the pupils encouraging them to think, question, and acquire the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in an ever-changing world. To her, the well-being of the child comes first.
“Our alumni make a significant impact in various fields and we take immense pride in their accomplishments. Our track record speaks for itself as pupils from this school excel in whatever path they choose,” she says.
As the school continues its mission of nurturing young minds and hearts, you can be part of their beautiful story.
