Over 100 residents displaced by a fierce blaze in Mukuru Kwa Njenga have been promised immediate government support to help rebuild their lives.

Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes, Geoffrey Ruku, visited the scene on Thursday morning, assuring victims of swift intervention.

“We are here not just to console you, but to walk with you through the recovery process. No Kenyan should be left behind in times of disaster,” said Ruku.

The fire, which erupted Wednesday afternoon, razed homes in the densely populated informal settlement, leaving families homeless and many without critical personal documents.

Ruku announced that the ministry will expedite the replacement of lost national IDs, birth certificates, and other key documents to restore access to essential services.

The government is also collaborating with humanitarian organizations to assess damage and ensure comprehensive aid coverage.

Authorities have launched investigations into the fire’s cause as residents urge for improved infrastructure and faster emergency response systems to prevent future tragedies.
