Jubilation swept through Embu Town on Thursday evening following the swearing-in of former Mbeere North MP Geoffrey Ruku as the new Cabinet Secretary for Public Service.
Excited residents took to the streets chanting “Ruku! Ruku!” as they danced to drumbeats and waved twigs in celebration. The atmosphere was electric, with locals expressing pride in one of their own, rising to a national leadership position.
Ruku succeeds outgoing CS Justin Muturi. His appointment is viewed as a significant political shift, with expectations high for reforms, improved service delivery, and a citizen-centered approach to governance.
“We’ve seen what he can do. When he was our MP, roads were built, schools improved, and the youth found opportunities. We’re confident he’ll replicate that nationally,” said a jubilant resident.
A known hands-on leader, Ruku built his political reputation through development initiatives, grassroots engagement, and youth empowerment. His track record has drawn praise across political lines.
Kenya Chamber of Commerce Embu Chapter Chairman Mugo Mate urged political players to give the new CS space to deliver on his mandate.
“He is a competent and visionary leader. We must shield him from political interference and let him execute his agenda for a transparent and effective public service,” Mate said.
Civil society groups and youth organizations also celebrated the appointment, describing Ruku as a symbol of possibility for leaders with humble beginnings who remain grounded.
