The National Assembly has invited Kenyans to participate in the hearings and submit their views on the Special Motion seeking the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The motion, a highly charged issue in the political landscape, is set to be held on Friday, October 4 across the country from 8 am to 5 pm.
In a gazette notice on Wednesday, participants have been allowed to make oral or written submissions during the public hearings.
In the notice, the National Assembly invited citizens to submit their views via email to impeachment@parliament.go.ke no later than Saturday, October 5, 2024.
Alternatively, the views may be delivered at the respective collection centres or meeting venues.
In Embu, the venue is set at IFAD Hall, Opposite DEB Kangaru School on Friday 4th October 2024.
The public hearings are part of a broader consultation process aimed at gathering diverse opinions on the matter.
Kenyans can access the submission form template at the National Assembly’s website.
Members of Parliament tabled a motion of impeachment before the National Assembly on Tuesday calling for Gachagua’s ouster presenting 10 charges he will be expected to answer.
The ten charges include; Making inciteful remarks, Undermining the president and the cabinet, attacking Lady Justice Esther Maina of the High Court, Violating the Oath of office, and Violating the National Cohesion and Integration Act.
Other charges are amassing properties worth Ksh.5.2 billion illegally, Misleading the public, Gross Misconduct, and Bullying.
The motion, tabled by Kibwezi West MP Eckomas Mwengi had been signed by 291 legislators, allowing it to sail to the resolution stage.
The motion accuses Gachagua of misconduct and constitutional violations.
