The Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry Cabinet Secretary (CS) Rebecca Miano has announced plans by the government to provide support and compensate all businesses affected by recent floods.
Miano said through the Kenya Development Cooperation (KDC), her department is currently in discussions with the World Bank and other development partners to secure funding for businesses impacted by floods.
Miano acknowledged the devastating impact the floods had on various businesses especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs), emphasizing the need for financial assistance to help them recover.
Miano urged all affected business owners to submit damage assessments to facilitate the government’s evaluation of the extent of the damage and to determine appropriate compensation and support measures.
“I urge those whose businesses were affected to provide damage assessments to enable us to plan how we can mitigate huge losses incurred by businesses when such natural calamities occur in the future,” CS Miano stated.
CS Miano further mentioned that once agreements are reached with the World Bank and other development partners, the Ministry will provide further details regarding the compensation plan.
Miano spoke to journalists in Embu on Friday when she presided over tree planting activity at Irangi Forest in Runyenjes sub-county.
