The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested three serial fraudsters posing as senior anti-corruption investigators following a string of extortion attempts targeting top government officials.

The suspects—former Kyululu Ward MCA James Mbuvi Kula, Mike Muthami Kasingi, and Raphael Muthoka Kithembe—were apprehended at Three Hut Bar in Komarock on Tuesday while allegedly waiting to extort money from a complainant who had outmaneuvered them.

A search by EACC sleuths uncovered 12 mobile phones, 22 SIM cards, and eight notebooks containing names and details of potential victims.

The trio had allegedly been impersonating EACC investigators, summoning senior government officials and parastatal heads under pretenses and demanding bribes.

“The arrest follows numerous complaints alleging that the three suspects were impersonating EACC’s investigators and extorting money from senior Government officials and parastatal heads,” EACC stated in a social media post.

EACC has urged the public to remain vigilant, noting that its investigators always carry official identification cards and communicate summons through formal written correspondence.

Legitimate inquiries are conducted at the EACC headquarters, regional offices, or designated police stations.
