Nuns from the Little Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi congregation have stepped up to provide critical relief to the community’s most vulnerable residents.

The nuns distributed food and blankets to elderly and needy residents of Gikuuri in Runyenjes Constituency, Embu County, offering much-needed comfort and support amid challenging times.

The charitable initiative, held at the local dispensary ground on Monday, saw over 50 families receive food supplies, providing hope in the face of the ongoing economic hardships.

Sister Evalyne Monyenye, one of the leading figures in the mission, expressed her deep concern for the elderly, who often face difficulties accessing necessities.

“We are committed to ensuring that no one in our community goes hungry or suffers in the cold. This is our way of showing love and care to those who need it most,” she said.

Sr. Angela Ndwiga noted that the activity cost about 100,000 Kenyan shillings.

She highlighted the plight of the beneficiaries, many of whom were severely affected by the floods.

“Our community has faced significant hardships. We are committed to ensuring that we stand with the needy in our community whenever we get assistance from the wellwishers,” she said.

The initiative has been met with widespread appreciation from residents and community leaders, who praised their selfless dedication to helping others.
