In a concerted effort to address environmental concerns and foster eco-awareness, Manyatta MP John Mukunji has inaugurated a groundbreaking tree-planting initiative spanning multiple schools in the Sub-county.
This endeavor seeks to significantly enhance the area’s green cover and instill a sense of environmental responsibility in the community.
Mukunji said beyond the immediate environmental impact, the campaign aims to empower students with hands-on experience in conservation and to cultivate a lasting commitment to ecological stewardship.
“We have planted 5,000 trees aiming at helping to mitigate the negative effects of climate change in our schools and the community at large in line with the Presidental directive of planting 15 billion trees,” he said.
President William Ruto launched national campaigns planning to plant 15 billion trees in 10 years.
The MP’s tree planting campaigns started at Mukangu, Kairuri Primary and Secondary Schools in Ruguru Ngandori ward.
He was joined by Mr. Pawwel, the Polland Ambassador Representative, Mr. Emilio Mugo(Chair-NEMA), PS Cyrus Gituai(KUCCPs), Manyatta Professionals, Members of the business community, Equity Bank, Kenya Forest Service, NGAOs among others.
The MP said they were in the process of scheduling days for tree-planting programs in other schools within the Sub-county.
The tree-planting initiative is anticipated to yield many benefits, including improved air quality, enhanced green spaces, and an interactive learning environment for students.
