Embu County leaders have called on the community to take a more active role in guiding young people on responsible road use, following a tragic motorcycle accident that claimed two lives and left three others seriously injured.

Speaking on Sunday during condolence visits in Gakwegori for the late Maxwell Munene and Job Justin Munene — popularly known as MC Jobie — Deputy Governor Kinyua Mugo urged parents, religious leaders, and local officials to collectively address the rising cases of reckless driving among the youth.

“We must discourage behaviours like overspeeding, dangerous overtaking, and driving without proper training or licensing,” Mugo said, emphasizing the need for early mentorship and community involvement.

The two young men died on September 14, 2025, after their motorbikes collided at Kapingaci Bridge along the Manyatta–Kairuri road.

Preliminary reports indicate that the crash was caused by careless riding. Three other individuals sustained serious injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals.

Mugo, representing Governor Cecily Mbarire, condoled with the bereaved families and announced that the county would soon launch direct engagement programs targeting young people to promote road safety awareness.

Echoing the Deputy Governor’s sentiments, a representative of Manyatta MP, MC Overseer Wamaviriri, warned against riding or driving under the influence of alcohol, stressing that such actions endanger both the riders and the general public.

Local leaders are now calling for a united front to curb preventable road deaths, particularly those involving young and untrained drivers.
