Kirimari Ward MCA Ibrahim Swaleh has urged increased support for youth digital skills training as a strategic response to rising unemployment and crime in Kenya.
Speaking during the 4th graduation ceremony of the Kirimari ICT Center in Embu town, where 114 students graduated, Swaleh called on leaders and parents to ensure young people are equipped with relevant technology skills to thrive in the digital economy.
“I urge all leaders to launch initiatives that create job opportunities for our youth, diverting them from the temptations of drug abuse and crime,” Swaleh said.
Swaleh, who doubles as the Deputy Speaker in Embu County Assembly, emphasized the value of short ICT courses in areas such as graphic design, web development, and digital marketing, saying they open doors to online businesses and self-employment.
He congratulated the graduates, expressing confidence that their three-month training would help them adapt to the changing job market.
Swaleh, however, cautioned against the misuse of technology, warning graduates not to engage in cybercrime, spread misinformation, or promote harmful content online.
He revealed plans to expand the ICT program and improve systems that support graduates venturing into digital enterprises.

Graduate Rachael Kangai Mbogo said learning graphic design had empowered her to start a business and offer marketing solutions to clients.
Another graduate, Morgan Muriithi, said the training had given him the skills to teach others and earn a sustainable income.
The Kirimari ICT Center has become a key platform for youth empowerment in the region, offering affordable training and hope for a better future.
Swaleh urged government and development partners to invest more in technology education and youth innovation programs.
