Embu Water and Sanitation Company (EWASCO) has dismissed accusations by prominent businessman KenJava Mwaniki Wakagoto, who claimed the utility provider was overcharging him.
Wakagoto alleged the company billed his foundation Sh150,000 for water used in the last 45 days, despite the facility not being operational.
Terming EWASCO as “the biggest scam of our time,” Wakagoto took to social media, expressing outrage over the charges.
“How can you raise a bill of Sh150,000 for a foundation that has not even begun operations? This is highly concerning and undermines public trust,” he wrote, accusing the utility of exploiting residents.
In response, EWASCO CEO James Njeru rubbished the claims, stating that the businessman had an outstanding water bill of over KSh 379,000 accrued in more than 10 months.
Njeru urged Wakagoto and other aggrieved customers to address their concerns directly with the company’s offices instead of airing grievances on social media.
“Water issues should not be politicized. EWASCO remains an apolitical institution committed to serving the people of Embu transparently,” Njeru said.
Njeru also defended the company’s billing process, reiterating its commitment to fairness and accountability. He encouraged locals to report any discrepancies directly to the company for resolution.
The public fallout has sparked heated discussions among Embu residents, with some echoing Wakagoto’s concerns while others called for dialogue to resolve the matter.
The clash underscores the need for service providers to maintain transparency and customer-centric approaches to avoid disputes that could damage their reputation.
