The County Government of Embu has granted a shortlived reprieve to motorists who forcibly entered the recently upgraded bus stage in Embu town.
County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Administration and Enforcement Emilio Kathuri revealed the possibility of assigning a new contractor to finish renovation works before allowing matatu operations to resume.
Kathuri said they engaged motorists who agreed to vacate the area when contractors were ready to resume work in 14 days.
He revealed that the delays in completion were necessitated by construction materials preparation.
“The drivers have promised to vacate the site upon the contractors’ request to continue preferably in 14 days,” Kathuri stated.
On Monday, the drivers forcibly entered the stage claiming it was ready for operation, only to discover an incomplete exit gate.
Before launching operations on the stage, motorists decried delays in reopening, saying it caused adverse effects to their businesses.

Kathuri said the stage was not officially open to the public due to its incomplete status.
The drivers said operating outside the designated stage during this festive period could lead to more losses.
However, they urged the county government to extend their stay if the contractor failed to resume work within the specified two-week timeframe.
The upgraded stage, a crucial part of the local transportation infrastructure, is undergoing renovations to enhance safety and efficiency.
