The Devolution Empowerment Party (DEP) leader and Embu gubernatorial aspirant, Lenny Kivuti, has condemned the killing of a party youth official, terming it a tragic result of escalating political intolerance.
The victim, 24-year-old Bernard Kithaka, was reportedly attacked and killed on Wednesday night in Muminji Ward after a disagreement linked to political affiliation.
According to reports, the confrontation arose after he allegedly declined to wear regalia associated with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Speaking to the press on Friday morning at the Lenny Kivuti Convention Centre in Embu, Kivuti expressed deep sorrow over the incident and called on security agencies to carry out thorough investigations to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
“This is a painful loss not only to the family but to the youth and the nation at large. No Kenyan should lose their life because of political differences,” he said.
Kivuti urged leaders and supporters across the political divide to embrace tolerance and peaceful coexistence, warning that unchecked political hostility threatens the country’s democratic space.
He further called on political parties to rein in their supporters and uphold the rule of law as political activity continues to intensify.
Police had not issued an official statement on the incident by the time of publication.
