Residents of Kithungururu and Kangaru villages in Embu County staged protests along the Kangaru–Kithungururu road over its poor condition, accusing county leaders of neglect despite repeated complaints.

The angry residents dug up sections of the road and planted banana trees on the damaged stretch to symbolically express their frustration over what they termed as prolonged inaction by authorities.

Speaking to Kimuri FM, the residents said the road has become nearly impassable, especially during the rainy season, making it difficult for people to travel, transport farm produce, and access essential services.

They claimed that several appeals and demonstrations have failed to yield meaningful action from county officials.

The residents further alleged that Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire had earlier promised to facilitate repairs on the road, but the pledge has not yet been fulfilled.

Speaking to Arise Media on phone, Kirimari Ward MCA Ibrahim Swaleh acknowledged the residents’ concerns and assured them that efforts are underway to secure funds for the rehabilitation of the road.

Swaleh urged residents to remain calm, saying the matter remains a priority as leaders work towards finding a lasting solution to improve the road network in the area.
