A growing concern has gripped residents of Embu town after a dump site located in Kanjuru area transformed into a dangerous hole, posing a significant threat to public safety.

The threatening hole, which has rapidly expanded in the recent weeks following the heavy rains, prompted urgent pleas from locals who are now calling on the County government to intervene before it’s too late.

“The dump site is now a massive hole, and every time it rains, it worsens. We are at risk. We need the government to intervene before disaster strikes,” said Josephine Karimi, a resident.

A dump site in Kanjuru, transformed into a dangerous hole, posing a significant threat to public safety.

Karimi said residents were grappling with uncertainty and concerns about the safety of their children, homes, and livelihoods.

She said with schools on break, children were more likely to explore the surroundings, inadvertently exposing themselves to the dangers lurking within the dump site.

Her statement was echoed by Pastor Isaac Kirimi, who feared that the unsuspecting children may come into direct contact with harmful substances or fall into the dangerous hole.

Alspensar Murimi, another resident, urged the disaster management team in Embu to assess and address the health implications for children in the vicinity.

“We call upon the county government to swiftly assess the situation and implement measures to protect us from this growing hazard,” he said.

Residents are eagerly awaiting government intervention, hopeful that swift action will be taken to address the hazardous conditions.
