Tension has gripped the University of Embu following the deaths of two young individuals within a week, raising concerns over security and mental health awareness at the institution.

On Thursday, a middle-aged man was found hanging from a tree within the university compound. Two days later, on Saturday, another body was discovered floating in a nearby dam.

Embu West OCPD Zacharia Omae confirmed the incidents, stating that investigations have been launched to establish the cause of death.

“We have identified the second victim as a 22-year-old second-year student, who had been reported missing by his family at Kangaru Police Station. However, the identity of the first victim remains unknown,” Omae said.

The university’s security team discovered the body in the dam and alerted authorities.

Law enforcement officers retrieved the remains and transferred them to Embu Level 5 Hospital Mortuary for further examination.

OCPD Omae assured the public that investigations are ongoing to determine whether foul play was involved.

“We urge students and residents to remain calm as we conduct thorough inquiries. Additionally, we encourage anyone struggling with personal challenges to seek help and support,” he added.

The deaths have sparked concerns among students, faculty, and parents, with calls for enhanced security measures and improved mental health support within the university.

“It is crucial to strengthen security measures and enhance mental health programs to support students,” Omae emphasized.

Police are appealing to anyone with relevant information to come forward as investigations continue.
