A delegation from Uasin Gishu County visited the Focus Realtors Housing Cooperative in Runyenjes, Embu County to benchmark best practices in affordable housing and sustainable community development.

Led by Uasin Gishu County Director of Cooperative Development Roselyn Rae, the delegates aimed to gather insights on innovative housing solutions and successful cooperative models to address the cooperatives’ needs in their County.

The Focus Realtors Housing Cooperative chairman, Paul Ngano, received the delegation and other cooperative leaders.

The benchmarking tour began with a presentation on the cooperative’s history, mission, and achievements in providing affordable housing and lands to its members.

Established as Juakali Housing Cooperative in 2012, the society that rebranded in 2015 to Focus Realtors Housing has enabled its members to own lands in 10 counties in Kenya, with plans for further expansion.

“Focus Realtors’ approach to community-driven housing solutions is commendable. Their success in mobilizing resources and engaging members in the development process provides valuable lessons for our cooperatives in Uasin Gishu,” said Rae.

She added, “In addition to housing, Focus Realtors has diversified its investments into several strategic business units (SBUs), including a Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (Sacco) and schools.”

Rae said the three-day benchmarking trip in Embu County, where they visited different societies, was fully sponsored by the County Government of Uasin Gishu.

Discussions between the two groups focused on financing mechanisms, member engagement strategies, and the challenges and opportunities in the affordable housing and diversification sectors.

“We are inspired by what we have seen and learned here. This visit marks the beginning of a fruitful partnership that will undoubtedly benefit our communities,” said Kipkorir Arap Menjo, the Chairman of Kokwatai Investment Cooperative and a member of the visiting delegation.

Ngano noted that honesty and transparency are the cornerstones of their success, hoping it will inspire similar initiatives in other regions.

“We are pleased to share our experiences and strategies with our colleagues from Uasin Gishu and look forward to potential collaborations,” said Ngano.

Focus Realtors Housing Society has 790 members with a whopping Sh120 million capital base.
