Young people have been urged to acquire national identification cards and register as voters to participate actively in upcoming elections.

Manyatta MP John Gitonga Mukunji, alongside other young parliamentarians, emphasized the need for youth engagement in the electoral process during a courtesy call to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Monday.

“We are committed to ensuring that the voice of the youth counts in the upcoming and subsequent elections,” Mukunji stated.

IEBC Chief Executive Officer Hussein Marjan assured the delegation that the commission is prepared to execute its mandate once its full composition is in place.

The leaders also discussed key electoral matters, including voter education, integrity, and strengthening democratic processes.

Mukunji urged the youth to apply for and collect their identification cards ahead of voter registration, warning that failure to do so could exclude them from making critical leadership choices.

“The youth must take charge of their future by actively participating in elections. A strong democracy begins with an informed and engaged electorate,” Mukunji stated.

The MP reiterated his commitment to advocating for policies that empower young voters, ensuring their voices influence national leadership and decision-making.
