Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire has advised residents living near the Seven Folks dams to vacate immediately to safer areas.
The announcement comes following an increase in water levels in the hydroelectric dams.
Particularly, Mbarire warned those living in Iria-Itune, Kamarandi, Ndurumori in Mbeere North, and Menguthe in Bondoni Mbeere South to move to higher grounds since the water levels have risen significantly with the heavy downpour across the country.
Mbarire said reports from KenGen indicate that water levels are expanding to residential areas.

“Let the residents understand that if the heavy rainfall persists in the next couple of days, seven folks dams will spill over around adjacent areas, and if they don’t move, the aftermath would be disastrous,” said Mbarire.
Mbarire said since the onset of the rains, 10 people have drowned where three cases have been reported in Mbeere North, three in Mbeere South, three in Mwea, and one in Embu West.
The Governor spoke during Tuesday’s meeting with the Embu County disaster committee and the County Security team.
