The Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority (UFAA) has urged residents of Embu County to recover their lost assets.
Speaking during the launch of a three-day public sensitization at Talent Academy in Embu, UFAA Chairman Francis Kigo Njenga revealed that the agency is safeguarding Sh32 billion in cash and Sh30.5 billion in shares as unclaimed assets.
Njenga highlighted that the agency had already given Sh2 billion to rightful claimants and aims to distribute Sh 10 billion by the end of the year.
“The reclaiming of lost assets is a collective responsibility, and we urge all Embu residents to check with our designated offices to ascertain if any unclaimed assets belong to them,” he said.
He said they aim to reunite rightful owners with their assets and reduce the burden on public agencies managing unclaimed properties.
“These are hard times for our community, and every resource matters. The unclaimed assets are, without a doubt, Kenyan’s hard-earned money, and we must ensure it gets back to them to help alleviate the economic strains many are facing,” he added.
He pointed out that Kenyans often lose money through unsuccessful bank account openings, security deposits in judicial systems, and forgetting mobile phone PINs.
Kigo stressed that returning these unclaimed amounts, held at the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), Kenyans would boost liquidity, potentially fostering economic growth.

Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority CEO Managing Trustee John Mwangi assured transparent procedures, utilizing ID verification for claimants.
Mwangi outlined a process where claimants would fill out forms, leading to payment within 14 days if assets are confirmed.
To facilitate the asset recovery process, the UFAA team has set up dedicated desks at Moi Stadium-Embu town where residents can inquire about and claim their lost assets.
“Our team will be at the Embu’s Moi Stadium for three days from Wednesday to help members of the public claim their assets,” Mwangi said.
Principal Magistrate Pauline Wangari urged residents who lost assets worth small amounts not to give up, as there are Small Claims Courts to handle such cases.
She has appealed to the residents to resolve financial disputes amicably among themselves before seeking court intervention.
