In response to a worrying surge in suicide cases among youth, the Embu County Campus Students Organization (ECCSO) is mobilizing the community for a mental health awareness walk scheduled for May 25, 2025, at Kibugu Market, Nginda Ward in Manyatta constituency.
Spearheaded by ECCSO Constituency Chairperson Nicasio Macharia, the walk aims to break the silence around mental health challenges, particularly among young people, and spark open conversations that can save lives.
“We’ve seen too many of our peers suffer in silence. This walk is not just symbolic — it’s a call to action. We want the community, leaders, and every stakeholder to come together and say: mental health matters,” said Macharia.
The initiative comes at a time when Manyatta and other areas in Embu County are grappling with an increasing number of suicide reports, especially among young adults.
The walk will feature placards, brief talks from mental health professionals, and testimonies from students, aiming to encourage those struggling to seek help and to remind the public of the importance of compassion and awareness.
ECCSO urges residents, local leaders, and institutions to support the initiative — whether by showing up, sharing the message, or sponsoring resources — and to commit to building a more mentally healthy society.
For more information or to support the walk, contact ECCSO through their social media platforms, representatives or Contact Macharia on 0745 967 827.
